Easter Holiday Events in Newcastle

Our Planet Earth - Gaia at Life Science Centre




Gaia is a mesmerising seven metre diameter model of planet Earth. It features detailed NASA imagery of the Earth’s surface You can view Gaia by standing, sitting, or walking underneath it, and from different angles.


Gaia is included in the Science Centre Entry Ticket, is recommended for all ages and is suggested you set aside 10 minutes to enjoy it. You can see Gaia everyday the Science Centre is open.

Spirit of Invention at Discovery Museum




Spirit of Invention is a family friendly exhibition was inspired by some of the thousands of creative designs registered with the Board of Trade from 1839 onwards. 

You can see contemporary technology alongside eye-catching inventions from the Victorian era – including a ventilating top hat and a typewriter for visually impaired people.


Entry to Discovery Museum is FREE and this event is included.

During the Easter Holiday there is a family friendly self led 'Ingenious Inventors Trail' for an addition 50p per trail.

Puppetry on the Green at Great North Museum: Hancock




As part of Newcastle Puppetry Festival Great North Museum: Hancock presents Puppetry on the Green, 6-days of free performances and workshops will take place in marquees on the lawn outside the museum.


Families can access shows like ‘Beowulf’, ‘Three Billy Pigs’ and ‘Tales of Robin Hood’ completely for free, alongside a varied programme of kids craft workshops.

Building: An Exhibition Under Construction at Farrel Centre



The Farrell Centre presents BUILDING: An exhibition under construction which will transform the exhibition galleries into live making spaces in an exploration of the process of building.


Installations will be created by students and apprentices, audience participation, and a programme of workshops and events for all audiences over a period of four month.

Animal Encounters at Ouseburn




Animal Encounters include Lamb Feeding, Reptile Bathing and Goat Walking. Booking is required for all events and spaces are limited.

Aliens Love Seven Stories at Seven Stories



Meet Seven Stories Space Scientist as they take you on an intergalactic interactive storytime performance. Join them on a hilarious trip to discover all you need to know about Aliens, including their love for all things underpants!

Dates: 30th March - 14th April 1pm and 3pm (approx 45 mins) Entry is £8.50 and booking is recommended.



Childrens Pizza Class and Parents Brunch at Fenwick



Mini chefs will get to make their own pizza, and while they are busy grown-ups can enjoy a leisurely brunch. Prices are £15 for children and £18 for adults and tickets include:

  • Drink on Arrival
  • Brunch Meal for Adults
  • Pizza activity and Meal for Kids

3 Day Art Camp for 7-10 Year Olds at Laing Art Gallery




Over the course of three days (Tuesday-Thursday), young people are welcome to explore the galleries, talk about art, and create their own work in sessions led by a professional arts educator. Experiment with materials, learn new skills, and create a dynamic set of works in the Laing's Art Studio!

Dates: Courses are available 2nd - 4th April and 9th - 11th April between 10am and 3pm. The Three-Day course costs £75 per child.




Edward Scissorhands at Newcastle Theatre Royal



Based on the classic Tim Burton movie and featuring the hauntingly beautiful music of Danny Elfman and Terry Davies, Bourne and his New Adventures Company return to this witty, bittersweet story of an incomplete boy left alone in a strange new world.


Matthew Bourne’s magical dance production of Edward Scissorhands comes to Newcastle Theatre Royal.

Dates: 27th March to 6th April, tickets start at £20

Guided Tour of Tyne Theatre and Opera House



The one hour tour of the building will explore all areas, including the understage, backstage and many other secret areas never seen on a normal visit. 

Your tour guide will reveal the theatre’s fascinating history, and highlight tales of its stars and even its ghosts.

Date: 6th April at 10.30am and 12.00pm, tickets cost £8.00



The Tortoise and the Hare at Northern Stage




The classic story of The Tortoise and the Hare comes to Northern Stage in a Northern Ballet Production. As seen on CBeebies this production is the perfect introduction for kids to live ballet and music. 


Dates: 11th & 12th April (approx 40 mins with no interval),

Comic-Con North East at Utilita Arena



COMIC CON NORTH EAST is part of the Monopoly Events family of pop culture conventions, attracting thousands of fans annually to the Utilita Arena in Newcastle.
