WC Newcastle | Review

WC Newcastle | Review

A few weeks ago we had a night out in Newcastle as a Christmas Night Out and one of the places we stopped at was WC on The Bigg Market. WC is located underground in the old Newcastle water closet (hence the name).

Originally built in 1898 as a water closet for the people of Newcastle it was a working public convenience until the early naughties ( I remember using this on nights out in my younger days).

The Toilet fell into disrepair and was left abandoned until a few years ago when it was repurposed into a cocktail bar with a little nod to the old underground speakeasies.

We have visited a few times now and always have a good experience, the cocktails here are really on point. They're proper cocktails made with proper ingredients by proper mixologists.

The cocktail menu looks like and old newspaper with stories from the olden days alongside the drinks available. My favourite story is that there used to be an indoor winter zoo in Newcastle's Bigg Market and you would sometimes see Geordie the Giraffe or Fred the Elephant walking down the Bigg Market.

My favourite cocktail is an Old Fashioned and the Cinnamon and Rosemary Old Fashioned is something really special. Sam likes an Espresso Martini but sometimes finds them too sweet, however the Espresso Martini at WC are perfect.

Sometimes WC has some specials Cocktails and when we went there were a few we wanted to try. There was a festive twist on an Old Fashioned with Chestnut and Vanilla that I Had to try and Sam went for a drink called a Christmas Kiss which was Disaronno Shaken with Cranberry Juice before being mixed with Cinnamon and Vanilla Flavours.

WC has a deal on Monday to Thursday 4pm until 7pm which is 2 for £12 on selected cocktails and glasses of fizz. I think this is a really good deal as the cocktails can get a bit pricey in town - well worth popping into.

WC is dog friendly and needs to be accessed by stairs.
